A travel crib that weighs less than the baby!

The Traveller comes with its own travel bag (with adjustable shoulder strap) & can be used inside or out. This updated version of the popular t2 includes many enhancements such as side zipper access, a zippered mattress pocket, rubber feet that won't scratch hardwood floors, and a sturdier look and feel.

  • Weighs 8 pounds/3.6 kilos in its travel bag, with mattress, stakes, manual, everything included.
  • Use from newborn to 3 years
  • Top and side zipper access. Optional UPF 80 UV shaded top zipper mesh cover available - the top zipper mesh that comes with the crib is not UV-protective.
  • Self-inflating, closed-cell air mattress (like a backpacking mattress, requires only a few puffs of air to inflate).
  • Rubber feet won't scratch hardwood floors.
  • Travel bag has zippered adjustable shoulder strap for ease of carrying. Will fit in most suitcases.
  • Tough, washable, & waterproof.
  • Dimensions:
    Erected:
    51" long x 25" wide x 31" high
    (130 x 63 x 79 cm)
    Packed:
    25" x 8.66" x 8.66"
    (63 x 22 x 22 cm)
    Mattress:
    46" long x 21" wide x 1" thick.
    (116cm x 53cm x 25mm)
  • Comes with metal stakes for outdoor use.
  • Good for children who don't sleep well in strange places or environments. You can introduce the Travel Crib ahead of time and allow your child to become familiar with it for naps and/or bedtime before your trip.
  • Mattress forms thermal protection layer between child and the ground, fits inside a zippered mattress sleeve. (Standard crib sheets can therefore not be used unless you take the mattress out of the sleeve and place it inside the crib, which many users prefer.)

BUT BE AWARE that Phil & Ted's recommends against this placing the mattress inside the crib, so if you do use the mattress inside the crib, well, as Judas Priest said....

Slim Shadee UV-protective mesh cover (+ $29)
NOTE: You get a FREE Slim Shadee with the purchase of a Traveller Crib. Order one here if you already *have* a crib, but need a Slim Shadee for it.

The zippered mesh cover that comes with the Traveller is NOT UV-protective. You can zip it off and zip on this optional cover, which is rated to UPF 80. If you plan to use the Traveller in direct sunlight though...be careful, it can get hot inside! Use common sense and check your child often for sweatiness, redness, or other signs of overheating.

Tip: If you need a crib for indoor use only, and speed of setup and durability are most important to you, then check out the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light.

My Two Cents
When packed up in the travel bag, this new crib is a lot longer and thinner than the t2 crib was. Nice shoulder strap, easier to carry. I set this up for the first time with a sleeping baby on my back, so somewhat of a handicap, but not an unusual one, given the target market for this product. ;-)

I opened the manual and the instructions were TINY little black and white photos with no text. Couldn't make heads or tails of what I was supposed to do, couldn't see what pieces they are showing. I started fitting pieces together until I came to a stopping point, then consulted the manual, still not sure what to do. Oh, text instructions a few pages later. Hmmm, better but still confusing. I wanted BIG photos.

Despite tiny photos with text on a totally different page, sleeping baby on my back, etc...I figured it out and got the crib set up within 15 minutes. It will probably take me under 10 minutes next time, but it's for sure not as easy as the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib. However, it also costs $50 less.

The Traveller looks snazzy and modern with its aluminum metal legs and clean lines. It feels very solid and stable, much more so than the t2. The feet sit firmly on the floor and won't scratch wood or laminate floors. Side zips mean that kids can get in and out by themselves if you want them to. It looks like the Traveller is roomier inside than the t2. It seems to use space more efficiently.

I open the valve on the mattress and puff into it. It doesn't need much air, but it does need some, despite a claim of being self-inflating. The mattress slides into a special zippered nylon sleeve in the bottom of the crib. I'm sure there must be a good reason for this (or possibly it's just another example of decreased product functionality due to runaway liability fears), but what it means is that you can no longer put a crib sheet on the mattress if you follow the rules, rather, your child will now be laying directly on the crib's nylon fabric. Bummer. Seems very uncomfortable.

If you don't mind breaking the rules and can accept full responsibility for your actions (don't try to blame it on me if something happens, you're a grown-up...you make your own decisions and take your own risks), just take the mattress out of the sleeve, put a crib sheet on it, and place it firmly inside the crib, pressing it down snugly into the bottom on all sides. That's how the previous version worked. But it's up to you.

Apart from the tiny instructional photos and having to break the rules to use a crib sheet, this is a nice design update to a very popular, compact, lightweight travel crib. My personal two cents is that I prefer the BABYBJÖRN Travel Crib Light for its ease of setup, durability and comfort. But if you need a water-resistant crib for outdoor use, or if you prefer a deeper crib that can zip completely closed (good in case of mosquitoes, or escape artists), then the Traveller is the one for you.
